The struggle to "find your own voice" amongst those who are different and who mean well, but just do not understand (and who often create situations that just do not fit) is a continuous struggle for most creative kids today in our school systems. This was, unbelievably, the inspiration for this particular work. Inspired by my own children's adolescence angst, I created this work to portray the conflicts that occur before a change for the better happens. Michael Torke's beautiful, mysteriously deep and moving score was the challenging part musically for me. I desperately wanted to create a work that gave this magnificent work justice, and more.
